SUOMI 42 – 42 marathons across Finland
Forty-two. Forty-two is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. Every good hitchhiker to the Galaxy knows that. And when you start to feel a midlife crisis on top of that, things start to happen. Yes, I know that I'm long past my probable middle age. Forty-two notches on the butt of life too. But that doesn't stop me from panicking at all. Panic and crisis. And these things are the best breeding ground for ideas worthy of a madman...
Anyone who knows me knows that I like to run. I am crazy about since a while. Exactly since I watched two oncoming vehicles collide from close range. From the passenger seat of one of them. Charon was slowly getting ready to take me to the other side, but I broke his paddle. He broke my spine among other things and kicked me back to you. Actually, even earlier among wheelchair users, although I was slightly luckier than them in that misfortune. All the more I had to admire their perseverance with which they can overcome everyday challenges, and even sporting ones.
And my new crazy idea belongs to wheelchair sportsmen, those from the Wheelchair Sports Club Prague. (www.skvpraha.org) The idea of running across Finland from south to north. Forty-two. 42 days, running 42 kilometers each time in shoe size 42. And to those who don't give up, bringing home 42 x 10,000 Czech crowns from the journey to their collection account. And yes, my friend Douglas Adams, this compliment belongs to you too!
From May to June, I will run - accompanied by an equally crazy cyclist, Honza Král - through the Land of a Thousand Lakes. And please, run as long as you can (because there may come a day when you will want to, but you won't be able to). And if you can, send something to the collection account of those wonderful people who found themselves in wheelchairs. Thank you!
