1 man – 30 days – 30 marathons

This is the name of a project in which I – as a hobby runner – will try to master at least the marathon distance of 42,195 metres a day, 30 days in a row. This event will be held in the autumn landscape of Northern Europe, near the Arctic Circle, in 2012.

It will not only be quite a challenge and a lot of fun – the project should also bring something to others. Specifically to the Wheelchair Sports Club in Prague, Czech Republic. And that something is at least CZK 1,000 (i.e. EUR 40 or GBP 33) for each run marathon within the project. I've made the deal that I will get the amount from sponsors or pay it by myself.

Is it possible?

I've never been a member of any sports club, haven’t passed special trainings and have never chased after minutes, seconds or points too much.

So what is the answer for the initial question? A question again: Does it make sense to do something that definitely comes out? Don’t we discover our own limits when we leave them behind?

Why people in wheelchairs?

In most cases these people didn’t end up in a wheelchair through their own fault. Sometimes, just a split second is enough to make human life take an unexpected direction. I had the privilege to survive a severe car accident without any consequences. I was honoured to meet some great and strong people during my subsequent treatment in the rehabilitation centre in Kladruby, Czech Republic. Maybe somewhere there it all began …

In preparation for the project I participate in marathon runs at home and abroad. For each completed marathon, I am sending CZK 300 (i.e. EUR 12 or GBP 10) to the account of the Wheelchair Sports Club in Prague. Anyone can join the project called “Allies” at the Wheelchair Sports Club in Prague and contribute any amount of money, e.g. for each kilometre run, for each marathon finished etc. My first supporter Bara sends CZK 100 to the account of the Wheelchair Sports Club in Prague for each run marathon within my preparation.
